Alien plants in the uMzimvubu catchment constitute one of the greatest threats to ecological infrastructure and water security (maybe second to the fracking threat, but a close second).
Over 20 000 ha of medium to dense wattle infestation have been mapped in the Matatiele Local Municipal area. Several sites across the upper catchment are being tackled by local partners, through DEA NRM Land User Incentive / EPWP, as well as CEPF, Municipal and GEF support.
